This Church, which was built upon the highest point for several miles around is at almost 400ft above sea level, was dedicated to St Michael & All Angels as was customary for churches in elevated positions. The walls are of local sandstone, the roofs of the nave and chancel are tiled. The roof of the tower is a broach spire covered with oak shingles. Around the churchyard is an almost complete carriage drive, a unique feature. The date of the first building is unknown, but it was of stone and built before the Norman Conquest. The Mediaeval Stained Glass in the East window is described by the late Nicholas Pesvner as being "the finest Decorated glass in the county, with the unmistakable Dec harmony of brown, green and yellow, with little red and less blue"
